Making good money of a quest reward (rare companion)

I am sure you have this pet on AH before: the Mechanical Chicken. It goes anywhere between 7,5K and 20K depending on the market dynamics. Maybe you’d wish you could buy one, maybe you have, maybe you’d like to sell one. Eitherway, I have good news for you. Everyone can get this companion and it is not soulbound! Every char in WoW can do a certain questline once which will reward you this companion. Multiple chars means.. multiple chickens.

Note: If you are hostile with Booty Bay, you won’t be able to turn in the quests!!

In total there are 7 quests you have to complete (of which the 7th will award the companion):

So here is how this works:

  • The “Find OOX” quests can not be accepted from an NPC, these are dropquests
  • After accepting a “Find OOX” quest, you are to find a mechanical chicken
  • Finding it will award you a “Rescue OOX” quest
  • Rescueing a chicken means following it for 200-300 yards and fighting off bad people who want to kill it
  • Upon rescueing a chicken, you can complete the quest all the way down in booty bay
  • Once you’ve rescued all three chickens, you can pick up in the final quest in booty bay
  • The final quest can be completed on the spot and awards you a chicken of your own (or to sell :P)

So how do I get the drop quests?

Well.. some luck has to be involved. There are specific areas and specific mobs that drop these quests, although some can take forever to drop. As you can see each of the three quests have differents letters. FE for example stands for Feralas. Here’s where to go and what mobs to kill:

  • TN > Tanaris: farm Zul Farrak over and over again. It probably won’t take more than 2 or 3 runs. Kill and loot everything in the instance (AoE loot has made it so much easier)
  • HL > Hinterlands: this is what took me the longest. Killing everything in Jintha’alor is a great strategy, killing the oozes in and around Skull Rock too. Basically, luck has to be on your side. Another strategy might be to start questing, why not go for Hinterlands Quests in the meantime? since it can drop from basically any mob in the area, it might not be such a bad idea.
  • FE > Feralas: Easiest quest drop in my opinion. Go to the cave at Feral Scar Vale (to the right of Feathermoon Stronghold on the map, just below the flightpoint). Kill yeti’s inside.. this should be a quick deal.

Please note that if you’ve been playing for some time, you might have completed one or more quests already.. this may leave you farming for hours without any result. To make find out if you have completed any of these quests you can use the following macro:

First copy/paste the following in your chat window and hit enter (nothing will happen): /run f,z=CreateFrame(‘frame’),{[836]=’The Hinterlands’,[648]=’Tanaris’,[25476]=’Feralas’};f:RegisterEvent(‘QUEST_QUERY_COMPLETE’)

Next, copy/paste the following in your chat window and hit enter (now something will happen): /run local s,t;f:SetScript(‘OnEvent’,function() t=GetQuestsCompleted();for c,v in pairs(z) do if t[c] then s=” else s=’ not’ end print(‘You have’..s,’found OOX in’,v) end end);QueryQuestsCompleted()

You will get something like the following result:

You have not found OOX in The Hinterlands
You have not found OOX in Tanaris
You have found OOX in Feralas
